Inter-institutional Postgraduate Programme of Studies “Data Analysis and Machine Statistical Learning” (GG B 4799/12-09-2022)

The Departments of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Crete, together with the Institute of Computational Mathematics (ICM) and the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), organize and operate the Inter-institutional Postgraduate Programme of Studies (IPPS) “Data Analysis and Statistical Machine Learning.”

The aim of the proposed Postgraduate Programme of Studies is to provide high-level education in Data Analysis and Statistical Machine Learning, as well as to strengthen basic and applied scientific research through the preparation of master’s theses and research projects. The main objective of the Programme is to train graduates—primarily from science and technology disciplines—in the areas of data analysis and machine learning. Students of the Programme will be trained both in the mathematical foundations of data science and in its computational aspects. In addition, they will have the opportunity to actively participate either in research projects conducted by the Programme’s faculty members or in projects carried out in collaboration with public- or private-sector organizations and companies.

The Programme admits graduates of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Greece or of equivalent and recognized institutions abroad who wish to obtain a Master’s Degree (MSc) in the subject area of the Programme. The Programme is addressed to both Greek and international students. Knowledge of the Greek language is not required for successful attendance.

To obtain the Master’s Degree, students must accumulate at least 90 ECTS credits (1 credit corresponding to 1 unit under the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System – ECTS), of which:
(a) at least 70 ECTS credits must be earned through the successful completion of courses, series of specialized lectures, and corresponding coursework; and
(b) 20 ECTS credits must be earned through the preparation of a master’s thesis (Master project).

The model curriculum, as well as the list of core courses and elective courses, are specified in Government Gazette (GG) B 4799/12-09-2022, concerning the establishment of the Programme.
